How long have you been designing invitations and what got you started?

My own wedding plans for July of 2000 got this started; I was in college and my favorite way to avoid studying was working on our invitations (which I printed for “free” with the credits that were supposed to be for printing out term papers!). When my brother asked me to create invitations for his own wedding in 2007, I refused to let the fun end there, and since my thoughtful brother had insisted that I include a logo on his invitations (to relish the credit for my work), MPCreations Custom Invitation Design was the original name of the company I started to build.

What's expected of me when we work together?

Compared to choosing something from the internet or a catalog, the design process with InviteBeautiful involves a lot more communication. I’ll expect you to be able to communicate with me digitally, either by Facebook or email, so that I can show you how your designs are unfolding and you can communicate about which parts you like and which parts still need tweaking. For more information on what to expect in working with me on an invitation design, visit my "How it Works" page on the different stages of invitation design.

What's your "bigger picture" that you're trying to achieve?

While part of my business is fueled by the enjoyment I derive from creating brand new designs that convey to a bride’s guest what an amazing can’t-miss-it event this is going to be, I’m also in this line of work because I love seeing the newness of love in the engagement period. I love seeing couples dream about their lifetime together, and because I hate to see the honeymoon end, I can invest some of my profits from your purchase toward a great resource locally called Great Marriages for Sheboygan County. This community resource seeks to serve as a “doctor’s office” for marriage - whether you need regular “checkups” to keep your marriage thriving, or whether you have an emergency situation that you need help navigating, they’ve done lots of research to develop mentoring and crisis-based programs for your relationship to continue as a source of happiness for the both of you (and maybe someday your children).

When did you take up calligraphy?

In 1988 for Christmas or my birthday, my parents did something very thoughtful for their craft-loving paper-and-pen-crazed ten-year-old girl. They purchased a calligraphy starter kit and checked out a dozen or so books from the library to make sure this hobby got off to a great start. I remember sitting in the living room with my family on many a Sunday afternoon, enjoying a movie together while I practiced my strokes, with line after line of the same letters, trying to learn how to shape each letter just right every single time. Any time anyone asks me what my favorite gift I’ve ever received was, this one wins hands-down. Now I’ve spent so many years enjoying the uniformity of my flowing pen strokes that I can play with paint pens free-hand to recreate the flow of the calligraphic hand on more permanent surfaces.

I like the sound of this, but am I going to be able to afford this?

I know cost is a big concern, and I’ve put together a bundle of worksheets and strategy guidesheets to help you as a bride gain a realistic picture of how to manage the finances of your wedding; this bundle is available when you sign up for my email series (which you can cancel at any time). For more specifics on the bottom line of how much this will cost, please visit my page on price, or call me, Melanie at 920-912-0786 to set up a quote for your specific needs.
